Leo Burnett Worldwide
announced March 18, 2005 the appointment of Alexandre Okada, 33,
as regional creative director for its Latin America region. Okada
will report to Giacomo Zandomenego, group president of Leo Burnett
Latin America, and Miguel Angel Furones, chief creative officer,
Leo Burnett Worldwide.
Okada will be responsible
for the region's creative product, working closely with local
creative directors, as well as the development and recruitment
of talent. Additionally, he will have direct oversight for key
regional clients such as Visa International. As a regional creative
director he will also sit on Leo Burnett's Global Product Committee,
a council of the agency's leaders held quarterly to judge the
network's creative work. Okada replaces Raul Lopez Rossi, who
will
continue to serve the Latin American region as a creative consultant
based in Buenos Aires, working on special projects and providing
counsel on key pieces of business.
Okada was most recently
executive creative director of Leo Burnett Lisbon, where he was
responsible for raising the creative stature of the agency on
a regional and international level. In 2003, LB/Lisbon was
ranked the top agency in Portugal being voted by the prisma:awards
jury "Agency of the Year"
"Alexandre is a respected creative talent in Portugal, his
home country of Brazil and the broader Latin American region,"
said Furones. "He has proven himself an asset to the Leo
Burnett network
and I have every confidence in his ability to provide leadership
and inspiration as the region's new creative steward." Okada
began his career in Brazil, working for DM9, ADD/Young & Rubicam
and NewcommBates between 1995 and 1999. He joined Leo Burnett
Sao Paulo in 1999 as a copywriter, and made the move to Leo Burnett
Lisbon in 2001 to become executive creative director. Over the
years, he has earned numerous awards, including: four Lions and
30 shortlists at the Cannes Festival; one Bronze and 17 Merits
at the Clio Awards; three medals and
several finalists at New York Festivals; gold, silvers and bronzes
at FIAP; and dozens of prizes in national festivals in Brazil
and Portugal. Among his more notable campaigns are last year's
award-winning Heinz Hot Ketchup print series ("Fish Tank"
and "Water Vase") as well as the ground-breaking Fiat
Palio "Change Your Concepts" launch in Brazil, which
helped Fiat surpass Volkswagen for the first time in 25 years
as the country's sales leader in 2001.
